Child safety standards

Our standard

Child sexual abuse and exploitation material is prohibited on Zidequest without exception. That covers any image, any written Zidequest, any submission, anything said in a chat, and anything written for a Zidequest that has a writing component. There is no context in which it is permitted and no threshold below which we tolerate it.

We also prohibit any attempt to use Zidequest to reach a child: soliciting a meeting, asking a minor for photographs, asking a minor to move the conversation to another service, or presenting yourself as a different age in order to do any of those things.

Nobody can contact you uninvited

This is the part we consider most important, because it is prevention rather than cleanup. Zidequest has no way to find another person. There is no user search, no suggested friends, no public profile, and no browsing other people.

A shared Zidequest exists only when somebody sends an invite code and another person chooses to accept it, and the chat is that group and nobody else. If you did not accept somebody's code, they cannot message you, cannot see your photos, and cannot see that you exist.

Reporting, in the app, at any time

Every Zidequest, every person in a shared Zidequest, every chat message, and every writing entry has a report control on it. Chat messages stay reportable after the Zidequest has finished and the chat has closed, because reading a conversation back afterwards is a normal way to notice something wrong with it.

You can also block anybody you have shared a Zidequest with. Blocking is immediate, works in both directions, hides their messages, hides what they wrote, withholds their photos, and can be undone.

What we do about it

A report about a child reaches the front of the queue. We do not wait for a second report and we do not apply a threshold, because the second person to be harmed is not an acceptable trigger.

Where a report is upheld we remove the content and suspend the account, which stops that person signing in or sending anything. We keep a permanent record that we did both, and that record outlives the account. We do not delete their messages or the reports about them, because those are the evidence. We report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and cooperate with law enforcement requests.

A Zidequest reported as unsafe is pulled from circulation while it is reviewed rather than after, so nobody else is sent it in the meantime.
