How it works

Two taps, one quest, one day at a time.

No planning, no feed to scroll, no streak of reading about doing things. You get told what to do, you go and do it, and then the app leaves you alone until tomorrow.

  1. Tell it what it is like outside

    Two taps: how cold it is, and what the sky is doing. That is the whole weather input. Zidequest never asks for your location, because it never needs one.

  2. Get today’s quest

    One quest, picked for the weather you just described, the time of day, and what you have already done recently, so you are not sent on the same walk twice or told to sit outside in a downpour. It comes with a row of icons telling you what it involves before you accept: whether it gets you wet, sends you out, or needs something picked up first.

  3. Do it, photograph it, keep the streak

    Finish it and take a photo if the quest asks for one. That is a day on your streak. The photo is yours. It goes into your own history and nowhere else. Rate the quest one to five stars and you will never be sent one you hated again.

Before you say yes

You always know what you are agreeing to.

Every quest carries a row of icons, and they are on the card before you accept, not after. Nobody should find out a quest needed a sitter, a change of clothes or a trip to the shop once they have already said yes. The ones marked can be turned off can be muted for good in your settings, so a parent without a sitter simply never sees those quests again.

Streaks

A missed day should not cost you three months.

One completed quest makes the day count. Do two, do five. The day counts once, and the app has nothing else to sell you on it.

Before you start

Questions people ask.

Is it actually free?
One quest a day, every day, with no card and no trial clock. That is the whole product and it does not expire. What costs money is wanting a second quest on the same day, skipping the one you were given, or an extra streak freeze. All optional, all things you would only reach for after the free version already worked for you.
Do you need my location?
No. Not optionally, not “for better results”. The app has no location permission at all. You tap how cold it is and what the sky is doing, and that is the entire weather input. It is two taps instead of a permission prompt, and it means there is nowhere in our database to put a coordinate even if we wanted one.
What happens if I miss a day?
The first miss each month is covered automatically by a free freeze. You do not have to remember, notice, or be awake. The streak just holds. Freezes only work backwards, so you can cover yesterday tomorrow, but you can never buy protection for a day that is still going. You could just go and do it.
Who can see my photos?
You. There is no feed, no profile page a stranger can open, and no way to browse anyone else’s history. The only exception is a co-op quest you chose to join, where the people in that party see each other’s photos for that one quest.
What if I get a Zidequest I do not want to do?
Leave it. Nothing is charged and nothing is deducted. The quest simply goes unfinished, and a new one arrives tomorrow. What the free tier does not include is skipping it to draw a different one today; that is part of Plus. Once a quest is finished or skipped you can rate it, and two stars or below means you will never be sent that one again.
Does it work in winter?
That is what the two taps are for. Tell it you are in freezing weather with snow and you get quests written for freezing weather with snow: indoor ones, short ones, and the handful that are genuinely better in the cold. A third of the library is written for exactly this, because it was built in Minnesota.
Can I do one with someone else?
Yes. You can invite someone to the same quest and both do it wherever you each are, then see each other’s photos once you are both done. The invite is a text message sent from your own phone. We never see the number and never ask for your contacts.
Will it nag me?
One quest arrives a day. Finish it and the app has nothing else to show you until tomorrow. No feed, no streak of reading about doing things, nothing to scroll. That is the design, not a stage we are going to grow out of.
